So you know I'm probably being harsh on Brian McTaggart for pulling him up on this propaganda piece he churned out on astros.com, but I'm still not happy about the way they decided not to cover the Jordan Schafer fiasco earlier this month.
I'm fed up of them sugar coating at best, lying at worst about what is really going on inside the organization. What part of 21-year-old Jay Austin is promising? His mid-season demotion from A+ to the Sally? His 105 strikeouts, his low SB total? His lack of on-base skills? He's doing a great impression of a terrible version of Michael Bourn.
This isn't the Pravda, but it is starting to read like it. If the official franchise websites are going to have a near monopoly on team access the content they produce should either be good or at least accurate.

Tenuous headlines get pagehits folks
As you might of noticed I'm not very fond of Stephen Goff, resident writer for the Houston Astros Examiner, serial twitter blocker, and general idiot. I also make no secret of the fact that I detest the Examiner format. True, I fired salvo number one, but he fired two, three, four and five.
At first it wasn't anything personal, I just strongly disagreed with what he said. Now I just enjoy the hilarity his journalism style brings. Here's today's offering "Pence set to make MLB postseason debut as Phillies kick off 2011 NLDS at home."
Here are other page whoring headlines he could have gone with:
"Former Astros first baseman Lance Berkman returns to postseason with St. Louis Cardinals."
"Former Astros prospect Ben Zobrist set to open NLDS with Rays as they play Texas Rangers."
"Former Astro Nolan Ryan's Texas Rangers host Tampa Bay Rays."
"Former Astros Brad Lidge, Hunter Pence and Roy Oswalt now play for the Phillies, who happen to be playing in the postseason currently."
"I try and link Brad Mills into a story about Terry Francona and the collapse of the Boston Red Sox, because he used to work in that organisation."
etc. etc.
Using year old quotes is just gravy. Makes you wonder if he stole/made up the first lot of quotes.
Unblock me on twitter Goff and I'll leave you alone. Until then.....
